What is DPD
DPD is an international courier service delivering parcels to customers from all over the world. They are owned by Geopost and have depots in more than 40 countries. They are one of the leading business-to-business parcel delivery services in Europe.
DPD or Dynamic Parcel Distribution, was founded in 1977 in Aschaffenburg, West Germany. It has remained a German company, with their headquarters located in Aschaffenburg. During its first year operating, DPD sent out over 1.4 million packages and by 1980 this figure had risen to 7 million parcels per year. Up until 2008 the company was called Deutscher Paketdienst until it was re-named Dynamic Parcel Distribution. In 2001 DPD bought Parceline, a british postal service, and Ireland’s Interlink parcels that were rebranded to DPD in 2008.
Currently, over 2 million parcels are shipped every single day and the company has expanded dramatically since its establishment in 1977. The company is predominantly owned by Geopost with shares held by La Poste, France’s postal service.
