Can I cancel my car insurance policy with the Co-operative?

Once you receive your insurance documents you will have 14 days to cancel the policy if you have changed your mind or no longer need car insurance. If you do decide to cancel your policy before 14 days is up, you will get a full refund of any additional costs, other than the days you have been covered for.

If you would like to cancel your car insurance contact the Co-operative Insurance department on the number above and request to cancel your policy. You will need to send back your Certificate of Motor Insurance to the address below.

Canceling your policy outside of this 14 day period, there will be a flat cancellation charge of £50 in the first year of the policy and after your first renewal, you will be charged pro-rota for time on your cover.

Can I add or remove drivers from my policy?

You can add or remove drivers from your policy easily with the Co-operative car insurance. The maximum number of drivers allowed on one policy is four in total. There could be an additional cost depending on the driver’s age and driving record.

I have Comprehensive car insurance. Does that mean I can drive another car?

To find out if you can drive another vehicle, check your insurance policy to double-check this. If you have Third Party Liability then you will be able to drive another car except:

  • The vehicle belongs to you or is hired to you
  • You are not insured under another policy
  • The vehicle is being driven following seizure by a government or public body
  • The vehicle is being driven outside of the UK, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands
  • The certificate does not permit you to drive another vehicle

How much will it cost to add a temporary driver and how long will they be on my policy?

Prices to add a temporary driver to your policy differ depending on the temporary driver’s age and record. Any alteration to a policy will incur a £15 administration fee.
